Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its opinion in the case of Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, in which it explicitly overruled Chevron and scaled back authority for federal agencies, reinforcing Congress's Article I legislative authority. House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement in response: "Congress has sidestepped our legal duties for far too long and today's ruling puts us back in the driver's seat when it comes to rulemaking and regulatory authority. We're no longer going to let federal agencies fill in the details when it comes to the policies we enact; instead, this will hopefully usher in a new era of congressional specificity and thoughtful legislative work." |
