Today, the House Committee on Natural Resources held a markup on 13 bills including one to commemorate the National Park Service’s (NPS) Centennial.

H.R. 4680, “National Park Service Centennial Act,” introduced by Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT), passed with bipartisan support. The bill provides new funding and management authorities to the NPS as the agency prepares for its 100th anniversary.

“We need creative solutions to improve the management of the National Park System and to guarantee the Centennial is a success for all Americans. This legislation puts forward creative mechanisms to achieve these goals by expanding philanthropic opportunities to our parks across the country. I look forward to advancing this innovative bill to the House floor for a new, prosperous century for our national parks,” Bishop said.

“The National Park Service has spent a century enriching the lives of many Americans. It is tasked with the continued conservation of our most treasured landscapes and significant historic structures,” Ranking Member Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) stated during the markup.
