Today, the House, by a vote of 235-188, passed H.R. 1644, the Supporting Transparent Regulatory and Environmental Actions in Mining Act (STREAM Act). Chairman Rob Bishop (R-UT) released the following statement:

“The Obama Administration’s development of the stream buffer zone rule exposes the President’s disdain for the rule of law and the concerns of people,” stated Chairman Bishop. “Passage of the STREAM Act combats these heavy-handed actions and prevents yet another costly and duplicative rule from being implemented. Let’s bring transparency, objectivity and science back to the decision-making process.”

The STREAM Act, introduced by Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV), increases transparency in the development of regulations concerning stream buffer zones and ends the regulatory overreach resulting in costly, duplicative top-down decision-making.

“I am proud that my bill, the STREAM Act, passed the House today with bipartisan support,” said Rep. Mooney. “The STREAM Act is critical to the mining industry and our economy. This bill will block an Obama anti-coal regulation, saving an estimated 77,000 [mining] jobs in West Virginia and across America. President Obama needs to wake up and realize that his radical environmental agenda has a real impact on hardworking families. The passage of the STREAM Act is crucial for preserving our economic health and way of life in West Virginia.”
