Chairmen Hastings and Lamborn Follow-up Letter to Secretary Salazar Requesting Complete Compliance, Sets Deadline for Document Requests and Information on the 6-month Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Drilling Moratorium
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
October 13, 2011
Dear Mr. Secretary: On September 28, 2011, the Committee once again wrote you to request that the Department of the Interior (DOI) provide documents and information relating to the Committee's investigation into whether senior officials of DOI, in an effort to help justify their decision to impose a 6-month moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, misrepresented that the moratorium was reviewed and supported by a group of scientists and industry experts. Specifically, the Committee requested copies of the seven emails that were withheld by DOI's Office of the Inspector General per instructions from DOI's Office of the Solicitor, and any email communications between Mr. Kemkar and the engineers following the release of report "Increased Safety Measures for Energy Development on the Outer Continental Shelf" by October 5, 2011. The Committee did not receive a response from DOI. Read the entire letter HERE. |
