Chairman Hastings Second Invitation Letter to Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu to Testify on His Recent Power Marketing Administrations Memorandum
WASHINGTON, D.C.,
August 29, 2012
Dear Secretary Chu:
As you know, your March 16, 2012 Memorandum to the Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs) has generated many questions and controversy. As a result, both Republican and Democratic House Members and Senators have joined together to send letters of concern over your proposal and the House passed a bipartisan proposal as part of an appropriations measure to prohibit funding for any new activities listed in the Memorandum. These bipartisan actions are very telling in this political climate. To provide you the opportunity to explain your reasons for the Memorandum and to allow PMA customers that would pay for these activities to provide input on this far-reaching effort, the House Natural Resources Committee held an oversight hearing on April 26, 2012. Although you were unfortunately out of the country and could not testify, your staff subsequently held “workshops” around the Western Area Power Administration’s (WAPA) service territory. Unfortunately, these and subsequent meetings have answered very little and have evoked even more questions. Read the entire invitation letter HERE. |
