While in Louisiana, Chairman Doc Hastings had the opportunity to visit the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge in Southeast Louisiana. During the tour, U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials briefed the Chairman on wetland restoration activities currently underway, energy production activities taking place in the Wildlife Refuge, and other important issues.
After leaving the Refuge, Chairman Hastings participated in an aerial tour of the Louisiana coastline and Gulf of Mexico. During the tour, Chairman Hastings was able to view the scenic Louisiana landscapes, energy production in the Gulf of Mexico, and the restoration and cleanup efforts taking place. Just as important, the Chairman saw firsthand the direct effects of the Obama Administration’s de facto moratorium. From idled service boats to empty platforms, the de facto moratorium has had far reaching negative effects on the local economy.
After a full day of traveling in southeast Louisiana, Chairman Hastings and Members of the Natural Resources Committee attended a tour of Motivatit Seafoods oyster processing facility where they enjoyed fresh Louisiana oysters and seafood from the Louisiana Seafood Promotion Board.
