The "Endangered Fish Recovery Programs Improvement Act of 2009" extends funding for two endangered fish programs in the Upper Colorado and San Juan river basins.  The bill specifically authorizes $84 million for twelve years to pay for research, fish stocking, management and other annual expenditures associated with the programs.  The bill is viewed as a way to enhance endangered fish populations while keeping some water and power projects in compliance with the Endangered Species Act.

McClintock (R-CA) Amendment #1 – Ensuring Continued Funding is Warranted (View Roll Call Vote)
This amendment would protect against the wasteful spending of tax dollars by requiring the Interior Department to submit a report to Congress to ensure that the continued funds are warranted.  Under federal statute, a report detailing the potential need for Congressional reauthorization of the fish recovery programs was supposed to be submitted by the end of Fiscal Year 2008, however it has not yet been completed.

Broun (R-GA) Amendment #1 – Overhead Costs Limitation (View Roll Call Vote)
This amendment would limit the amount of the Department of the Interior agencies’ overhead costs for this project to 11 percent per fiscal year.
