House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Doc Hastings (WA-04) and National Parks, Forest s and Public Lands Subcommittee Ranking Member Rob Bishop (UT-01) sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today asking him to bring the missing pages from “Internal Document” that details plans to designate new national monuments to the Natural Resources Committee Full Committee hearing this Wednesday, May 26th. Secretary Salazar is scheduled to testify at the hearing.
The Department of Interior is refusing to turn over ALL the pages of the “Internal Document” of which only pages numbered 15 to 21 have been revealed. DOI is not only withholding the first 14 pages, but also any pages that likely come after page 21. Letter excerpt: “We ask that you bring with you to the May 26th hearing and deliver to us a complete, un-redacted copy of the ‘Internal Memo’ regarding the potential new national monuments and other land use initiatives. While we continue to request that the full 2,016 pages of withheld documents be turned over to Congress, we believe it a very reasonable request for you to simply deliver to us the missing pages (1-14, 22 and above) of the ‘Internal Memo.’ The Obama Administration has repeatedly pledged to be open and transparent, and we hope you will uphold that by letting the American people see the complete document.” Click here to read the full letter. # # # |
